LESSON 11 / Beginner

Write a useful support handover

5 min readConcept draftNot yet reviewed or tested in an IFS environment

Turn a symptom into reproducible, shareable evidence.

Prerequisites: IFS Cloud essentials. No IFS login is needed for this written exercise. Estimated reading time excludes practice.

A useful support report separates observations from assumptions. It identifies the expected result, actual result, scope, and smallest repeatable example. This is a general troubleshooting method to use alongside the official documentation for the affected IFS feature.

After a configuration delivery, one role sees a blank reference while another sees the expected value. ‘Deployment failed’ is a hypothesis. The narrower observation gives the next investigator a useful starting point.

  1. Capture the environment and release, page or API, affected role, and time.
  2. Write the shortest sequence that reproduces the issue with fictional or sanitized data.
  3. Record expected and actual results separately.
  4. List recent changes, impact, workarounds, and the next owner.

Draft a handover for a reference visible to a supervisor but blank for a coordinator.

See a suggested answer

Use one test record, two named test roles, identical page and context, a timestamp, and the expected reference. Attach sanitized evidence of the difference and identify the recent package. Request investigation of the relevant data exposure and effective access without prescribing broad grants.

Sharing tokens, passwords, customer exports, or full logs containing private data. Extract only the evidence needed for the investigation.

Expected result: a written answer that explains your decision and identifies what still needs confirmation in the actual environment.

Cleanup: none; this exercise changes no IFS data.
