LESSON 16 / Beginner

Design a useful lobby

5 min readConcept draftNot yet reviewed or tested in an IFS environment

Connect a visual indicator to an action and its underlying data.

Prerequisites: IFS Cloud essentials. No IFS login is needed for this written exercise. Estimated reading time excludes practice.

An IFS Lobby provides an overview for an individual, role, or process. A useful lobby element answers a question and helps the user decide what to do next. Design its meaning and access behavior before spending time on its appearance.

The coordinator’s lobby shows ‘7 handovers need attention.’ The number is useful only if the coordinator understands the definition and can reach the relevant records. A supervisor may legitimately see a different total because their context or access differs.

  1. Give the element a label that describes the actual metric.
  2. Define filters, parameters, refresh expectations, and intended audience.
  3. Specify where the user should navigate to investigate the number.
  4. Test the count and destination with representative roles and data.

Sketch a lobby element for overdue handovers, including a label, definition, and next action.

See a suggested answer

Label it ‘Overdue handovers for my site.’ Define overdue using an agreed date boundary and included states. Link the next action to the same population. Validate that the destination shows the records counted, accounting for any documented access differences.

Assuming a visible lobby page guarantees permission to use every linked action or underlying feature.

Expected result: a written answer that explains your decision and identifies what still needs confirmation in the actual environment.

Cleanup: none; this exercise changes no IFS data.
