LESSON 06 / Beginner

Plan a configuration package

6 min readConcept draftNot yet reviewed or tested in an IFS environment

Group a change with its dependencies and a deployment checklist.

Prerequisites: IFS Cloud essentials. No IFS login is needed for this written exercise. Estimated reading time excludes practice.

An Application Configuration Package (ACP) groups related configurations for lifecycle management. It helps move a defined set of configuration items between environments. A package is not proof that a change is safe: the target environment, dependencies, permissions, and test evidence still matter.

Northstar wants a handover reference on a page. The visible page change may depend on an attribute and a projection configuration. Moving the page alone can leave the target unable to supply the value.

  1. List the business outcome and every configuration item that contributes to it.
  2. Record the source and target release, package identity, and owner.
  3. Draw dependency arrows: which item must exist before another can work?
  4. Define a target-environment check for display, saved values, and role access.

Create a delivery inventory for the handover-reference change. Include an item, its dependency, a test, and an owner for each row.

Use rows for the attribute definition, exposure of the value, and the page change if your implementation requires each. Ask the reviewer to verify the actual dependencies. A useful acceptance check is that an authorized coordinator can save a fictional reference and read it after reopening the record.

Exporting a package is not a backup strategy for every related piece of business data. Define recovery separately.

Expected result: a written answer that explains your decision and identifies what still needs confirmation in the actual environment.

Cleanup: none; this exercise changes no IFS data.
