LESSON 20 / Beginner

Prepare a release handover

5 min readConcept draftNot yet reviewed or tested in an IFS environment

Make deployment, recovery, and support ownership explicit.

Prerequisites: IFS Cloud essentials. No IFS login is needed for this written exercise. Estimated reading time excludes practice.

A release handover should let another authorized person understand what is changing, how success is judged, and what to do if it fails. For configuration deliveries, connect the handover to the exact package and its target environment.

The package is ready, but no one knows which role to use for a smoke test or who can decide to stop. A concise handover resolves those questions before the deployment window.

  1. Identify the release artifact, dependencies, target, owner, and approved window.
  2. Record completed test evidence and known limitations.
  3. Write a small smoke test with expected results and named operators.
  4. Agree recovery conditions, a tested recovery method, and the person responsible for the decision.

Write a go/no-go checklist for the handover-reference release.

Confirm the intended package, target compatibility, approval, test evidence, operator access, and recovery readiness. After delivery, verify one permitted write/read case and the unchanged old-record workflow. If a critical check fails, stop and follow the agreed recovery decision instead of inventing a fix in production.

Assuming reimporting an earlier package automatically reverses every data or configuration effect.

Expected result: a written answer that explains your decision and identifies what still needs confirmation in the actual environment.

Cleanup: none; this exercise changes no IFS data.
