Reporting has three separate quality checks: correct business values, correct presentation, and correct delivery. Start with the layer that matches the problem rather than changing a layout to compensate for a data defect.
Documentation-based learning guides · Not executed in an IFS environment. Confirm the report technology, installed components, and release before applying configuration. Report Designer and Report Studio do not have identical capabilities.
Define and reconcile the result
Section titled “Define and reconcile the result”- Define a trustworthy metric — Agree the population, units, and calculation before building a visual.
- Design a useful lobby — Make an operational question easy to answer.
- Reconcile report results — Explain totals using independent evidence.
Configure presentation and delivery
Section titled “Configure presentation and delivery”- Digitally sign IFS report PDFs — Plan report signing in IFS Cloud with certificate ownership, keystore controls, rule scope, and independent PDF signature validation.
- Configure logos and conditional branding in IFS reports — Separate default logos from layout-specific and conditional branding, then validate company, language, renderer, and deployment behavior.
- Manage language-dependent text in IFS report layouts — Distinguish report language, translation keys, layout text, and business descriptions when validating multilingual IFS reports.
- Deliver IFS reports with additional email attachments — Plan report-email attachments by document version, recipient authorization, size, and delivery evidence without relying on legacy filesystem paths.
- Automate IFS report printing without duplicate output — Design unattended IFS report printing around ordering, rendering, logical printers, delivery acknowledgement, and deliberate reprint controls.
- Use Oracle SQL functions in IFS reporting queries — Choose CASE, joins, or local PL/SQL functions for reporting calculations while preserving null semantics, tool compatibility, and explainable results.
Choose a starting point
Section titled “Choose a starting point”| Symptom | Start with |
|---|---|
| Correct records, wrong company logo | Image selection and fallback |
| Correct language in the UI, wrong report text | Print language and layout translations |
| Need proof that a PDF was not changed | Digital signature validation |
| Extra documents missing from an email | Attachment manifest and delivery evidence |
| Duplicate paper after a retry | Print intent and job reconciliation |
| Totals differ between tools | Calculation semantics and reconciliation |
Plan a change across all three layers
Section titled “Plan a change across all three layers”For a fictional inspection certificate, establish the accepted measurements first. Then select the approved company branding and recipient language. Assemble required pages before applying the intended digital signature, and finally route the output to its authorized destination. Keep the result reference and layout version so a later reprint can be explained.
Use the report delivery acceptance matrix to record expected combinations of company, language, layout, destination, and outcome. Its rows are test proposals, not proof of execution. Begin in a controlled development environment with fictional records and test destinations.
