Explore interactive workflow diagrams

Change an input, step through the flow, and click a node to understand its role. The validation diagram follows the original downloadable BPMN example; the other two diagrams explain transaction boundaries.

BROWSER SIMULATION · FICTIONAL DATA · NO IFS CONNECTION

Matches the nodes and decision in our downloadable BPMN template. Try a reference, empty text, or spaces.

Ready. Choose Next step or Run to end.

Click a node to inspect it. Highlighted arrows show the path taken; the dashed outline marks the current step. On small screens, scroll the diagram sideways.

MissingPresent / defaultThe trigger supplies ExternalReference. This teaching flow makes no API or REST calls.StartThe script reads ExternalReference and sets referenceMissing to true for null, empty, or whitespace-only input.Check referenceThe exclusive gateway follows the failure branch when referenceMissing is true; otherwise it uses the default success branch.Referencemissing?IFS Failure Event: Enter an external reference before continuing. In the intended synchronous validation, this rejects the operation; committed or external effects have separate boundaries.ReferencerequiredThe workflow ends successfully. Download the validation BPMN template. The form and asynchronous diagrams are conceptual maps, not importable BPMN files.

  1. Run the validation with DEMO-HO-021, then clear the reference and run it again. Compare the highlighted branches.
  2. Use Next step to inspect when referenceMissing first appears.
  3. Choose Follow a user form, select Cancel, and inspect whether prior work remains committed.
  4. Choose Follow asynchronous work, select Failed attempt, and compare the attempt outcome with the original transaction.

These simulations run locally in your browser. They do not execute BPMN in an IFS engine, save inputs, or call business APIs. Reset clears the execution trace while keeping your chosen inputs.

Read the corresponding guides for validation, forms, and asynchronous execution.
