Installing the Excel Migration Add-In fails with an error — what should be checked beyond the generic ClickOnce-cache-cleanup steps?

Answer

First check which browser was used to download the installer — downloading via Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer rather than Chrome has resolved this installation error in confirmed cases. Also check the manifest value stored in the Windows Registry for the add-in — if a stale or conflicting manifest entry exists there, delete that registry value and reinstall the add-in. If neither of those resolves it, falling back to clearing the ClickOnce application cache (deleting the contents of C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\) before reinstalling is the next step, the same as for other ClickOnce-based IFS client installation issues.
