Create a genuine custom logical unit (CLU) holding the values you need, then define your custom attribute as a reference-type field pointing at that CLU instead of a custom enumeration — this removes the enumeration's length ceiling entirely, since users then pick from real records in your custom LU rather than from a fixed, size-limited enumeration list.
