Developer Studio gets stuck indefinitely on 'Opening Projects' (particularly noticed on a Citrix-hosted Developer Desktop), regardless of which customer/environment is selected, and has to be force-killed via Task Manager — is this a cache problem, and how do you clear it?

Answer

Yes, this is commonly a corrupted local cache. Developer Studio keeps its cache in a per-user, per-version folder — something like C:\Users\<UserID>\AppData\Roaming\DeveloperStudio\<version> — and deleting everything inside that folder typically resolves a persistent 'Opening Projects' hang. Be aware this also clears some of your personal Developer Studio settings, which you'll need to reconfigure afterward.
