Performance drawbacks have been noticed that seem related to the Oracle database's job_queue_processes parameter setting. What's the correct formula for sizing this parameter for an IFS environment, and how is it actually changed?

Answer

Use this sizing formula: (Total number of configured IFS Batch Queue processes + Oracle's own reserved processes + 3) should be less than or equal to job_queue_processes. Once you've determined the target value using that formula, apply it with ALTER SYSTEM SET job_queue_processes=<value> SCOPE=BOTH;, which applies the change immediately and also persists it across future database restarts.
