When building a new custom REST API (a custom SVC-style projection) that needs to call several existing standard operations, should it call the standard operations' own service-package (SVC) CRUD methods directly, or go through the standard entity/API layer instead?

Answer

Call the underlying entity DB APIs directly (following the same code-flow pattern Core code itself uses), not another service package's CRUD methods — an SVC package's CRUD methods are meant to be used only within that specific projection's own API call flow, not invoked from a different (including custom) SVC's context; calling from SVC to SVC bypasses the intended layering and isn't the recommended pattern, even though it may appear to work in simple cases.
