Rather than fighting a payload-size limitation at the custom-event/REST-call layer, consider sending only a lightweight identifier (like a key or list number) to your middleware and having the middleware itself call back into the IFS APIs to assemble the full content it needs — this sidesteps the size constraint entirely instead of trying to work around it in the outbound call.
