The page section you're looking at may be rendered from a different, related entity's additional view rather than having its own separate entity — check the page's underlying entity for an additional/alternate view that corresponds to the section you want to extend, add the custom field against that base entity, and select the matching additional view so it becomes available on the page you're targeting.
