An Assistant invoked from outside the current page (like a 'Create Receipt' dialog launched from a button rather than being part of the page itself) can't be found or configured in Page Designer directly — how do you customize a step in an externally-invoked assistant like this?

Answer

Externally-invoked assistants aren't listed in Page Designer the normal way specifically to keep projection size down for performance reasons, but they can still be reached through a workaround: navigate to a deliberately nonexistent 'dummy' page using the assistant's client model in the URL (.../main/ifsapplications/web/page/<client-model>/dummy) — the client shows a 404, but Page Designer still opens successfully from there, and the assistant's steps become available to configure under All Pages > Assistants. If you don't already know the client model name for a given externally-invoked assistant, you can find it by clearing your browser's Network tab (Developer Tools), triggering the assistant, and filtering the captured network requests for 'cpi' — this reveals the client models called from outside that you can then plug into the dummy-page URL.
