How does the 'Width (%)' field on the Lobby Element Designer's columns actually work — getting columns to display correctly seems to be more luck than judgment?

Answer

The Width(%) value represents each column's MINIMUM allocated space, rather than a strict fixed width — the percentages don't need to precisely add up to any exact total for the layout to render correctly, since unused space from columns not fully using their allocated percentage gets redistributed to other columns automatically. Getting columns to display with the exact intended proportions often comes down to trial and error: adjusting the percentages (including sometimes adding a deliberately oversized, unused placeholder column specifically to visually compress the other real columns closer together), or adjusting the overall element's box width itself. The underlying rendering behaves like standard HTML relative-width table columns rather than fixed pixel-precise sizing, which is why it can feel quirky to tune.
