A report built from an IAL-based information source has five optional filter parameters — if a user only fills in two of them and leaves the rest blank, the report should still return matching rows filtered only by the two provided values, but instead it returns nothing at all unless every parameter is filled in.

Answer

Configure the optional parameters (the ones that should be skippable) as multi-value parameters with a default value of ALL, rather than as single-value optional parameters. With that default, leaving a parameter blank causes it to effectively match every value for that field instead of filtering out all rows; if the user does want to filter by that field, they simply select a specific value instead of leaving it at the ALL default.
