A working Crystal Quick Report that reads several IALs starts failing with a generic 'Failed to retrieve Report. Please contact your System Administrator' error (with no further detail) as soon as an additional IAL is added that reads standard invoice tables directly — even though the report still runs fine when connecting through Crystal Developer directly as IFSAPP.

Answer

Grant SELECT privileges on the specific tables the new IAL references (in this case, tables like the invoice header table) to both the IFSSYS and IFSPRINT users — these are the accounts Crystal Reports actually runs under when executed through IFS Quick Reports, as opposed to Crystal Developer's own direct connection. If you're referencing Custom Field views or tables in the report as well, those need the same grants to IFSSYS and IFSPRINT. If granting those privileges doesn't resolve it, check the Crystal Web Service's own log file on its host machine for more specific error detail, since the generic client-facing error message deliberately hides the underlying cause.
