KPI data sources have generally been a read-only, system-defined list rather than something you can add to directly — for a fully automated KPI, its connected data source shows in the KPI catalog, and for anything not natively covered, providing external data (for example via a spreadsheet upload) has been the supported path rather than authoring a brand-new automated data source yourself.
