When an approval request lands with a user, is there a way for them to see who actually originated/requested that approval, since there's no obvious native field showing this and users often have follow-up questions for whoever triggered it?

Answer

There's no single universal field for this, since there's no one common mechanism by which every approval gets requested — it's usually triggered via a Custom Event whose underlying trigger is specific to whatever object type the approval relates to. In practice there's almost always a way to surface this, usually via a custom field of some kind tailored to that specific object type — for example, for a status-change-triggered approval, a read-only custom field pulling from that object's own History tab, which does track who made the triggering change, can surface the originating user. This needs to be implemented per object type rather than as one universal system-wide answer.
