An application server fails to stop cleanly, hanging on the server-kill step with a process-termination timeout. A fresh middleware installation can also fail partway through configuration with no clear application-level cause.

Answer

Consider antivirus/endpoint-protection software interfering with the Java runtime as a real possible cause before assuming it's a platform bug — a corrupted Java library file, or middleware configuration failing outright, has been traced back to antivirus or endpoint-protection agents on more than one occasion. Temporarily disabling or excluding the relevant paths from that software is a reasonable diagnostic step before escalating as a platform defect.
