For a DR/replication setup using Oracle Data Guard, does an IFS AFSU-style Oracle license directly determine which Oracle Database features (Tuning Pack, Diagnostics Pack, Active Data Guard, Data Guard, etc.) are available to use?

Answer

The license model itself doesn't directly grant specific feature entitlements — what actually unlocks a given feature is which Oracle Database edition and add-on licenses your organization holds. IFS's typical bundled license model includes Oracle Enterprise Edition, which is what makes standard Data Guard and RMAN compression available (over Standard Edition) — standard Data Guard is generally sufficient for DR between a primary and standby on the same WAN, with a typical data-loss window in the range of 5-10 minutes, which is acceptable for most implementations. If you need zero data loss, that requires purchasing Active Data Guard as a separate license on top of Enterprise Edition, and the Diagnostics and Tuning Packs are likewise separate, additional-cost licenses rather than something bundled in by default.
