Setting up a ZPL/Zebra printer, a guide says to configure it via an Application Server Task with Job Type 'PrintAgent,' but that job type doesn't appear in the Job Type dropdown at all. Where does Print Agent actually get configured, and is installing Print Agent itself mandatory just to print reports?

Answer

What you're actually looking for is a Report Formatter, configured under Setup IFS Connect in the navigator — not a 'PrintAgent' Application Server Task job type, which isn't how Print Agent setup works. Print Agent itself isn't mandatory for basic printing to a network printer (which explains why printing has worked without it before); it becomes necessary specifically for scenarios like ZPL label printing that need the Print Agent's own spooler/socket handling. When you do need it, install Print Agent on a dedicated utility server with network access to the physical printers — not on the application server itself or an end-user client machine.
