There isn't a simpler built-in way beyond creating a custom attribute/custom field, with one exception worth checking first: if the name/description field happens to already exist in the underlying data but is just hidden by default, it may be possible to reveal it through Page Designer instead of building a custom field from scratch — so it's worth checking Page Designer's available fields for that ID column before assuming a custom field is required. Beyond that, the only other route is a genuine code-level form customization, which is considerably more complex and costly than either of the above, and generally not worth it just to surface a display name.
